Based on testing conducted by the Institute for Hydrogeology of Serbia, there are 28 springs and wells in Lukovska Spa, with water temperatures ranging between 28 and 68°C. The waters are slightly alkaline based on their content (pH 6.5) and belong to the category of sodium-calcium-hydrocarbonate and sulphidic hyperthermal waters. The presence of dissolved hydrogen-sulphide is key for the treatment of rheumatic patients.
The thermal water used in all the pools and bathtubs has a hydrothermal effect (temperature), hydrochemical effect (chemical composition of the water) and hydromechanic effect.
Continuous control of thermal water safety is conducted at the Institute for Public Health in Niš.
Mud made from thermal waters is also used in treatments. Earth with high mineral content is ground, sifted and mixed with curative waters, and the mud is then used for direct and indirect applications.
